Alexandre de Betak for Gstaad Art Week

Jack photographs artist Alexandre de Betak, as part of his immersive new light installation, unveiled this week during Gstaad Art Week in the high-alpine region of Bernese Oberland.

Part 'chashitsu' teahouse, and part Swiss 'schürli' barn, the installation draws parallels between Swiss and Japanese architecture using futuristic, modular light panels and mirrors, positioned alongside the barn's rough timber slats, to reflect, fracture, and magnify the structure.

As the artistic director behind the production of some of fashion's most pioneering shows, de Betak is stepping in to a new chapter with Takbe Studio, a practice focused on artistic projects, interior architecture and design.

"Light filters through gaps in the structure, flattening the palette to wood, white and silver; the effect is strangely calming, as if the landscape outside has seeped into the installation itself."
