Solo Show at Hama Gallery

Throughout September, Hama Gallery will showcase Melissa Schriek's first solo exhibition, This Makes Perfect Sense to Me alongside her selection appearing within this years Unseen Photo Festival.

In this new series of work, Melissa continues to explore the dynamics of female identity, relationships and self-expression. In her own words, “I mainly photograph women in my personal work. There are so many interesting things to say about being a woman.”

The exhibition will feature Melissa’s series of painted photographs, shot during her trip to Japan earlier this year. “Painting my images has become very important. It feels like I am discovering hidden stories in my existing work.” This discovery has allowed Melissa to reinvent her archived photographs, now focusing on shapes and textures that illuminate captured moments of intimacy and connection, celebrating feminine liberation and empowerment.
