Preferring to cast all her own subjects, and get to know them in advance of a shoot, Clara's portraits are sincere, warm, and hopeful. A project that encapsulates this approach is her work for the EUnited European Elections campaign. An original concept pitched by Clara, the project saw her cast and photograph pan-European couples in their most intimate settings, to show that love really can transcend borders. The work was subsequently developed in to an interactive poster campaign, allowing audiences across Europe to print and disseminate the campaign artwork in their native language.

Clara first picked up a camera in her hometown in the Germany countryside, photographing her sister, friends and family. With a German father and Portuguese mother, she has grown up naturally absorbing a multitude of cultural influences, which has heavily shaped the way that she sees her practice. “I really like to experiment and get to know new things, staying curious about the world around me. My practice and my concepts derive from that.”
